REVIEW – When I chose to set up my home office/studio, I understood that smaller 15′′ monitors would be better for some purposes due to space and since I built the area with my podcasting workstation distinct from my everyday use/photo editing/video editing workspace. I set out on a journey to locate the greatest 15-inch monitors that would suit my needs. The Desklab Ultralight Portable 4K Touchscreen Monitor was one of the displays I was allowed to evaluate.

Performance
When I originally got the Desklab Ultralight Portable 4K Touchscreen Display, I connected it as an auxiliary monitor and also plugged in the second USB connection to activate the touchscreen capability. It functioned as advertised as a Plug & Play device and appeared in Windows/System Settings as it should.
I opted to leave the monitor on for a few days at a time as part of the testing to see how it would perform in terms of heating up, etc. After about 3 weeks, the monitor stopped operating and would not turn on. After thoroughly examining everything, I decided that the monitor had indeed failed.
Desklab delivered me a replacement monitor a few weeks later, and I was back to testing. The monitor display got distorted between 3 and 4 weeks later, as indicated in the photo below:

Desklab eventually shipped another new monitor, which was now the third monitor, and it has stayed steady and dependable this time. Here's a picture of the one I now have, which has been functioning perfectly for over a year.

The display on the Desklab Ultralight Portable 4K Touchscreen Monitor is bright and generally very nice. While I did try a few other connections, I mostly use it linked to a dedicated small PC that is part of my podcasting workplace. The built-in speakers produce a
rather nice and precise sound for a monitor of this size. Of course, the elephant in the room is the string of previous failures.

What I like

  • The size
  • The display
  • The touchscreen functionality
  • The 4k resolution

What I would change

  • Quality Control
  • Anything and everything else that is a point of failure

Finally, some thoughts
I now have no issues now that I am on my third Desklab Ultralight Portable 4K Touchscreen Monitor. However, the fact that it required two returns to obtain one that works well and is long-lasting is, in my opinion, an enormous failure. Whether it's a lack of quality control or simply faulty components, I wouldn't want to go through this as a customer, especially after spending money.
